SEBASTIAN MULLAERT with musicians of TONHALLE ORCHESTER ZÜRICH

Videos

Natthall - The Documentary

In depth 20 min documentary film featuring previously unseen behind the scenes footage, capturing the full process of this project coming to life, as well a wider commentary on the development of the modern classical scene. Featuring exclusive live footage captured during the concert in Zurich, extensive interviews with Sebastian Mullaert, the Tonhalle Orchestra musicians, arranger Luca Magni, areal videographer Tobias Larsson and TonahalleLate creative lead Pierre Bachmann.

Moonwaker

Mixed media music video, created by Berlin based visual artist Petra Hermanová, captures close-up and distorted shots of moss, bark and fungi. As the images pass, melting into one another and forming strange and beautiful landscapes, they complement the organic soundscapes that form and dissolve at the background.

Views Of Natthall

Captured by Swedish areal videographer Tobias Larsson, the video material to View of Natthall was shot whilst listening to Sebastian’s music in landscapes across Sweden, Austria, Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, and Italy.

Ascending Of A Spotless Bird

The raw nature footage was captured with a AS350 helicopter and some of the most advanced camera technology on the market. The final outcome was developed in collaboration with immersive installation specialists Moritz Flachmann.

The Story

Over 4 years ago, on top of the beautiful cliff of Natthall, close to Röstånga in the south of Sweden, Niko Seizov and I shared visions and dreams about a project bridging genres of music, exploring new ways of combining art and science and also investigating how different ways of improvisation can form with both acoustic and electronic instruments. The nature around Röstånga is so full of energy and so full of life; when you feel something is right that feeling is enhanced. It’s sometimes scary how quickly some manifestations take form. I don’t really feel there is a specific start to anything, nor that there exists an individual existence or a separated identity, but that time on top of Nathall was a very special stepping stone for me.

The concert with the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich which later became this very album are just the first ripples from the energy we felt on that cliff and I’m so grateful to be part of this journey as it unfolds and expresses. Where it is leading and what turns this adventure will take I do not know and, as cliché it might sound, it is truly not the end of the journey that matters and I highly doubt there is any end. If any, I think the end is just the realization of it’s absence and the relaxation into now. It is the result of that conscious shift from a linear perception to one beyond that.

I would like to extend my deepest thanks to You, as you read this now. I really hope and wish that you take the time to listen to this music from start to end. I know that this is almost becoming a rarity these days but I deeply feel that our full focus when being one with art and opening our awareness to whatever experience is taking form while listening to music is an important and healing activity that we all need. Our human community needs to find balance and peace together. So thank you for doing this, you are the creator over and over again, in every little moment of your existence. There are so many people involved in a project like this, so many people’s true passion and hard working hours to give air to the wings. Thanks to all of you who have been part of this project, who are actively working with it now and all of you who will join the journey together with us.
